Professor Zhou Bin lecturing on "International Chinese Education and Cross-cultural Communication of Calligraphy"

On the afternoon of October 10, 2024, the third lecture of the International Chinese Education Frontier Series of CHL was successfully delivered. Zhou Bin, professor of the School of Humanities, doctoral supervisor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and director of the Institute of International Communication of Chinese Calligraphy Culture,was the speaker. The theme of the lecture was "Research on International Chinese Education and Intercultural Communication of Calligraphy". Before the lecture, Dean Wu Zhenjun and Vice Dean Zhang Haitao warmly received Professor Zhou Bin and showed him the teaching and research facilities at CHL. Wu Zhenjun introduced the overall situation of the School and welcomed Professor Zhou Bin's arrival, and Department head Zhao Linxiao introduced the overview of the construction of international Chinese education. Professor Zhou Bin spoke highly of the achievements of the major and discipline construction of international Chinese Language education, answered the questions raised by the young teachers and graduate students in turn, kindly commented on the calligraphy works of the graduate talent training course, and gave guidance and suggestions for the discipline construction and graduate training.

At 3:30 PM, the academic lecture officially began. Zhang Yanqiu, Party secretary of the School of Grammar, Zhang Haitao, deputy dean, Zhao Linxiao, Dean of the Department, Gu Yi, professor of the School of Foreign Languages, Zhao Jin, Chai Hongmei, Liu Yun and Li Ziyin, professional teachers representatives of the Department of Chinese Language International Education, participated in the lecture together with more than 200 undergraduate and graduate students. Secretary Zhang Yanqiu first delivered a warm welcome speech on behalf of the college, welcoming Professor Zhou Bin to bring cutting-edge academic information to teachers and students, and encouraged students to seize the opportunity to study .

In the lecture, Professor Zhou Bin used calligraphy as a communication carrier, combined calligraphy teaching with international Chinese teaching, led the students to understand the new bridge between Chinese culture and world culture from an innovative perspective, demonstrated the diversity and interest of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and further pointed out the importance of "innovation" in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Professor Zhou Bin also integrated psychological concepts into cross-cultural communication teaching, based on the "aesthetic psychology" of different races, and established a new connection between personal characteristics and the five traditional Chinese calligraphy strokes. Finally, Professor Zhou summed up the four advantages of calligraphy in international Chinese education to the students based on his own practical experience, and encouraged students to carry out cultural innovation teaching, and jointly build a bright future of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
